Book title: BANKSY ART TERRORIST
Author: Yoshitaka Mori
■summary
This book is about Banksy, who is a street artist based in England. At first, he was just a local graffiti artist. But, in 2003, he became famous for making anti-war placards against Iraq war. He is often called “Art terrorist”, because he has been doing political activities by means of art. Banksy attracts people’s attention for his sarcasm and his pop and catchy works. His irony towards capitalism makes him more valuable in an art market. Graffiti writing is made in a public place and often considered to be vandalism. The question of whether graffiti is art or not makes another question of which right should be respected, private property or freedom of expression? In japan, the former is more thought to be respected. Although Banksy is world-famous, he still keeps low profile. His wide range of activities get people wonder wether he is one man or a group of people.
